Elmer Dave Hopkins, 86, El Dorado Springs, passed away on Oct. 11, 2016, in Community Springs Healthcare. Elmer was born Sept. 2, 1930, in Farlington, KS, the only child of William and Iva Williams Hopkins.

On Dec. 25, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lorene Maberry. To this union two children were born, Nancy Lynn and Eddie Dean.

Elmer was employed by the Highway Department for 35 years and retired in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene; his mother, Iva; his father, William; his stepmother, Lindy; his sisters-in-law – Ruthie Rains, Lucy Cooper and Allyne Dwyer; and his brother-in-law, Richard Dwyer.

Elmer is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ron Brown, El Dorado Springs; his son, Eddie, of Lafayette, LA; four grandchildren – Heather and husband, Craig Thorell, Brett and wife, Rachael Brown, Brian Moeller, Ethan Hopkins and Kala and husband, Tyler Kenney; three great-granddaughters – Kylie Ann Moeller, Crayton Lynn Thorell and Raeleigh Belle Brown; special friend, Phyllis Eagleton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen Maberry, Jim Rains, Arky Cooper, Toni Messick and Connie Maberry; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were held Friday, Oct. 14, in Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Music was  “Daddy’s Hands,” “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “You’ll Be There.” Casketbearers were Don Boultinghouse, Gary Charles, Kenny Burchett, Tim Charles, Don Ruscha, Terry Charles, Shorty Gilpin, Mike Dozler, Robert Spencer and Dennis Kimrey.

Interment was in El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under direction of Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs. www.sheldonfh.com.
