Frances Paulean Hawkins, 88, Schell City, MO, passed away in Appleton City, MO, on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
Paulean was born to Earl Willis Walton & Maude Frances (Binion) Walton on April 29, 1938 at her grandmother’s house in Prescott, Arizona. Her family spent time living in Barstow, CA, Independence, MO, and other various places, but she has called Schell City home since 1963.
Paulean worked as a seamstress for many years, as well as a Mary Kay beauty consultant. In her late fifties, she earned her GED, followed by her associate’s degree from Vatterott College. She then went on to be a teacher’s aide in the local school and product demonstrator at many local stores. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, going to church, spending time with her husband, family and pets.
Paulean’s most important roles were being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, sister and friend. She is survived by her adoring husband of 48 years, Leonard Eugene Hawkins of Schell City; beloved daughter, Donna (Michael) Freeman of Edwardsville, IL; step-daughter, Melissa McCoy of Fort Scott, KS; four grandchildren: Heather (Justin) Cline of Edwardsville, IL, Lindsey (Jacob) Apple of Edwardsville, IL, Josh (Carrie) Freeman of Highland, IL and Jakub Dowell of Girard, KS; 14 great-grandchildren, brothers in law, sisters in law and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Mary Ann Thorp and Viola Esther Brumit, her brothers Earl (Sug) Willis Walton, Jr and Elmer Leon Walton (in infancy) and granddaughter Meaghan BreAnn Ensor.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at Schell City Christian Church, followed by service at 11 a.m. with burial in Green Lawn Cemetery immediately following under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
