Garrel Ray Bogart, 68, died unexpectedly, June 24, 2022 after medical staff found multiple life altering health issues. He was born September 5, 1953 in El Dorado Springs, the son of Henry Allen and Faye Elizabeth (Jennings) Bogart.
Garrel graduated from El Dorado Springs High School, Class of 1971. Before and following graduation, he worked at the Dairy Maid and later purchased it along with the car wash directly behind it. After a few years in fast food, he sold those two businesses and went to work for his uncle John as an apprentice carpenter. After learning the trade, he worked with his uncle for a few years, before moving on to Stutesman Brother’s to work for them as a rough in carpenter. After moving to Nevada, he went into business for himself as Bogart Construction, later taking on his brother Rusty as a partner. Due to the economy, they had to find work outside of Missouri, and found work in Texas. They traveled back and forth for several years before they dissolved their partnership and he decided to move to Texas, while Rusty did not.
One of his favorite past times was cooking on his smoker or barbecuing for family gatherings or community benefits. If it was meat, he could cook it on the smoker or the barbeque. He even had a recipe for alligator, which we were told turned out pretty awesome. He loved being able to serve his family and community in this way.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include wife, Cathy of Texas City, TX; daughter, Amie Herrin and her husband, Jared; a son, Brian, and his wife, Ashley; two step-sons, Jason Bartlett and his wife, Angela, and Justin Bartlett and girlfriend, Amanda; six granddaughters; Dylan, Addyson, Elayna, Blakely, Kallee and London; two grandsons; Kaven and Gunnar; two brothers, Rick and wife, Rosie of El Dorado Springs, and Rusty and wife, LeAnn of Sarasota, FL; two sisters, Linda Smith of El Dorado Springs, and Donna Allen and husband, Don of Sarasota, FL, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and lots of cousins.
A memorial celebration of life gathering will be held from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Elks Lodge in Nevada. Friends and family are invited to attend and share remembrances. Buffet lunch will be served. The family will have a private service at the El Dorado Springs Cemetery before the celebration of life gathering.
