Gary Neil Chambers, 81, El Dorado Springs, passed away on Nov 16, 2023, surrounded by his family. Gary was born on April 25, 1942, in Cedar County to Orville and Lois Chambers (Haynes).

Gary graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1960, and then reported to basic training for the United States Army. Gary retired from the Army after 21 years of service with several awards and commendations. During that time, he met and married his wife, Marianne (Kneifel), while stationed in Germany. Gary and Mariane were united in marriage on Dec. 19, 1964. To this union two children were born, Gary Chambers and Carmen Shiver.

After retiring from the Army, Gary became a police officer for the Riley County Police Department, Manhattan, KS. He spent most of his nine years with the department, patrolling the Northern part of Riley County. After leaving the police department he became a warehouse foreman for Bailey Moving and Storage. He officially retired and moved home to the family farm in El Dorado Springs in 2006. Gary enjoyed collecting tractors, hunting, fishing, reading and tinkering around on the farm. He also enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters, Faith Shiver and McKaley Chambers.

Gary is preceded in death by his wife, Marianne, of 50 years; parents, Orville and Lois Chambers; brothers, Clarence Chambers and John Chambers; sister-in-law, Thelma Chambers; brother-in-law, Eugen Kneifel; Aunt, Freda Floyd, and various other aunts and uncles.

Gary is survived by his son, Gary (Amy) Chambers; daughter, Carmen Shiver; two granddaughters, Faith Shiver and McKaley Chambers; sisters, Janet (Gerald) Jones and Melody (Steve) Johnson; brothers, Larry (Tracy) Chambers and Roger (Cathy) Chambers; sisters-in-law, Sharon Chambers and Sandy Chambers; brother-in-law, Christin (Gitti) Kneifel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A service for Gary Chambers was held on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Kenny Batson was the minister. His final resting place is Caplinger Mills Cemetery.

Gary requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and or the Alzheimer’s Association.
