Gene Hays, 82, El Dorado Springs, was born on Jan. 26, 1935, in Taberville to Lester and Amy (Mann) Hays.  He went to be with the Lord on Dec. 22, 2017, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar.

Gene lived a full life of doing what he loved which included spending time with his family, going to the coffee shop drinking coffee with his friends, coon hunting, fishing and watching old westerns.

He was raised in St. Clair County then later moved to Cedar County.  Gene attended high school at Appleton City High School.  He was in the U.S. Army for six months before being honorably discharged for a family hardship when his dad lost his foot in a farming accident.

Gene met the love of his life, Claudean Davis, and they were married over 50 years.  To this union, two sons were born,  Danny Gene and Billy Dean.

Gene owned and operated his own business called Hays Bulldozing for at least 47 years.

He is survived by his son, Danny Hays; brother, Glen Hays, and wife, Alberta, of Walker;  brother-in-law, Bobby Scotten, of Harwood; and  many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Claudean; infant son, Billy Dean; parents, Lester and Amy Hays; five sisters, Beverly Gardner, Ruby McConnaughey, Eva Scotten, Carolyn Morerod, and Judy Spencer.

Services were Wednesday, Dec. 27, in Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs under direction of Sheldon Funeral Home with Brent Bland officiating

Interment at Hackleman Cemetery, El Dorado Springs.

Music was “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “Old Rugged Cross.”

Casketbearers were Robert Spencer, Scotty Scott, Andy Hays, Russell Hays, David Scotten and Bobby Scotten.
