Helen Loh 1cc

Helen Loh, (born Tcheng Sieu-Hien), 88, Brewster, formerly of Torrance, CA, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 6, 2016. She was the widow of Ming-Ya Loh and the daughter of Tcheng Jiao and Yang Shu. She was born in Amoy, Fukien, China.

The Tcheng family migrated to French Indochina during the Japanese invasion of China and Ming-Ya Loh from Shanghai, was sent by his employer, Bank of China, to Haiphong, where he met Helen. They were married in Saigon, South Vietnam.

After many years of service with the bank in Saigon, Taiwan and Thailand, Ming-Ya retired and they settled in Torrance, CA, in 1980. With relatives spread across four continents, Helen frequently few to Paris, Brussels, Shanghai and Toronto to visit them.

After Ming-Ya passed away in 2002, Helen stayed in Torrance until 2014 when she moved to Cape Cod to live with her daughter, Mary, and son-in-law, Bob. Helen was famous for her cooking talent, entertaining family members, friend and relatives with the best spring rolls on earth.

She was a great ceramic artist, a tailor who would make her own clothes and furniture covers, an avid Mahjong player and unfaltering Rumm-mikub gamer and will remain memorable as an unparalleled Karaoke singer.

She is survived by her five children – Mary (Loh) Mauterstock and her husband, Bob; Jean Loh; Robert Loh; Allice (Loh) Hacker and her husband, Ken; Phillippe Loh and Therese Vulin. Helen was grandmother to – Valerie Loh-Dubreuil, Stephanie Mauterstock, Sonia Hacker, Alexa Hacker, Alexis Huret, Alan Loh and Maelys Loh. And great-grandmother to – Eymeric Loh, Ambre Loh, Sam Huret, Celeste Loh-Dubreuil, Isidore Loh-Dubreuil and Henry Heiserman.
