James Carl “Bodie” Deckard Jr.

James Carl “Bodie” Deckard Jr, 45, Ottawa, KS, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bodie was born July 26, 1978, in El Dorado Springs to James C. and Geneva Deckard. He attended school at El Dorado Springs High School and graduated in 1997.

He married his wife, Whitney, on Nov. 16, 2006, in Kansas City. He was the Maintenance Supervisor at Saint Joseph Medical Center where he’s been employed for the last 21 years.

Bodie was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, trapping and fishing. Bodie had a very outgoing personality and people were drawn to his sweet nature and smile. Bodie also enjoyed listening to music, picking his banjo, watching Gunsmoke and being with his friends and family.

Proceeding Bodie in death was his paternal and maternal grandparents; father, James C. Deckard; and brother-in-law, Justin Boyd.

Survivors include his wife, Whitney, of the home; mother, Geneva Deckard – El Dorado Springs; brother, Greg Deckard (Lori)  Green Forest, AR; sisters, Sherri Rains – Nevada and Sandy Boyd – Nevada; seven nieces; and one nephew.

He was loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Service were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Visitation was prior to the service, starting at 1 p.m. His final resting place was Pleasant Springs Cemetery in Rockville.
