A presence that was unmatched left us unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Friday, Jan 17, 2025 at the home of his companion. Susan, Tommy and Cole were by his side.

Tom Holcomb, 85, was born May 5, 1939 north of Nevada on the backside of his current home to Howard R. and Lucille K. (Poland) Holcomb. He attended a one-room school through the 8th grade and graduated from Nevada High School in 1957.

Tom was a truck driver. It was a career that started in 1957 and ended three weeks before his death. He also farmed and raised cattle. In 1961 he was drafted into the US Army and served two years in Germany and France delivering supplies by truck. He returned home and in short fashion married Dixie J. Eason on Dec. 21, 1964. They made their home in Milo until moving to Compton Junction in 1977 and there he had remained. While in Milo he owned and operated the Milo Elevator and was a founding member of the Milo Rural Fire Department.

Tom drove race cars in the sixties, truck pulls in the seventies and began a long-time love affair with boating and NASCAR. He went to the Daytona 500 for many years. All of this evolved into tractor pulling. He was a member of the Spring River Valley Pulling Association and had pulled this last season. He was a life member of the Nevada Elks Lodge and a member of the Nevada Eagles. He worked hard and played harder.

Tom was preceded by his parents; his wife, Dixie; long-time companion, Maxine Oslin; and a stepdaughter. He is survived by his son, Tommy Holcomb (Sharon); brother, Jerry, and his companion, Susan Burns; a granddaughter, grandson, nieces, nephew, great nieces and nephews and so, so many friends. Tom will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was a treasure, and he will be missed.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Roger Beach officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Antioch Cemetery. The family will received visitors Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to Shriners Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or the Milo Fire Department c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
