Jimmie Grady Pope, 83, was born June 15, 1937, in Oklahoma city. The family moved to El Dorado Springs in 1947.

Jim loved Missouri. He was baptized in the El Dorado Springs First Christian Church at the age of nine. He held the office of Elder as an adult. He enjoyed the Men’s Fellowship, working in all their projects. They tore down two houses and the funeral home south of the church, to make a parking area.

Jim served in the Air Force from 1959 to 1963 at the Hamilton Air Force Base, CA. He did a tour of duty in Formosa. On his return trip they made a stop in Okinawa and he got to visit his brother, Lt. Tom Pope, who was stationed there.

After his military duty he returned to Missouri working in Kansas City a few years before retuning to El Dorado Springs. He ran a filling station on Main Street for a short time and worked for Schwalm Electric while managing the family farm.

Jim loved the farm and raised cattle, crops and enjoyed gardening.

He was an avid fisherman and continued to fish during the spring of 2020 until his illness prevented it.

He married Claudine Lollar in 1984 and they made their home on the farm until their semi-retirement when they traveled on a number of nice bus trips and with family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Dorothy Pope; a niece, Susan Steward; and nephew, Tommy Pope. He is survived by his wife, Claudine Pope; sister, Carolyn (Eldon) Steward; brother, Tom Pope (Marilyn); two nieces, Kim Conrad of California, and Arlene Listz of North Carolina; step Children – Steven Reynolds (Virginia) of Colorado, and Janey Reynolds of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Colt Herren (Sara) of Oklahoma, Monica Meier (Landon) and Sonny Reynolds of Colorado; Great-grandchildren, Cash, Chaz and Chloe Herren of Oklahoma; and a long time friend, Forrest Troyer.

In lieu of flowers you may make donations to hospice or your favorite charity.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. July 9, in Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
