Leo Norman Markham, 89, was born April 12, 1933, to “Frank” and Iola (Murray) Markham. He departed this life on Thursday, March 16, 2023.
Leo was saved and baptized in the First Baptist Church at the age of 20. He served there as an ordained deacon for many years. He joined the Army in 1953. He served in Germany until 1955. On Dec. 26, 1953, he was united in marriage to Nina Fae Smith. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in December. To this union two sons were born, Mike and Dennis.
Leo worked at Mid America Dairyman for 37 1⁄2 years. After retirement, he enjoyed raising beef cattle and farming with his family. He even helped Dennis mow hay this past summer. He and Nina Fae enjoyed their retirement by camping and fishing. Leo always had a fish story to tell. Leo always had the desire to travel to Alaska. In 2000, the Markhams and four other couples set out on a three month RVing adventure.
Preceding Leo in death were his son, Mike; parents, Frank and Iola; brother, Elton; and sister-in-law, Joan.
Leo is survived by his wife, Nina Fae of the home; son, Dennis and wife, Melissa; two grandchildren, Amy and husband, Lee Boultinghouse, and Zachary Markham; and great grandson, Kale Boultinghouse.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 23, with Pastor Ron Marsh officiating. Interment will be in Virgil City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Barker, Nolan Davis, Dan Hackleman, Alan Hooper, Albert Mallicoat, Mike Mallicoat, Rick Pinkman and David Sibley.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and left at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
