Matthew S Cross, 51, of Sheldon, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 16, 2019. Matt was born December 27, 1967, to Quincy and Margaret (Shannon) Cross. Matt lived most of his life in the Sheldon area and attended El Dorado Springs schools, graduating in 1986. Matt married Hollee Sublett on June 22, 1991.

Matt made many friends and memories while he worked at Woods Supermarket, Murphy Farms and Land of Lakes. He completed truck driving school and drove a truck for a short time. Also, Matt served his community by serving on El Dorado Springs School board from 2006-2011. For the past 13 years, Matt was a cattleman, utilizing the family farm, and fulfilled his dream of working with cattle.

When he was young Matt enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunts with friends and calling turkeys in. He also liked fishing and golfing, as well as playing baseball and football during his school years.  For many years, much of his time has been spent with his wife and children. His cattle were a hobby as well as a livelihood.

Matt trusted in Jesus Christ for his salvation at a young age. It was this faith that drove his spirit of kindness, generosity and trustworthiness. He lived out his faith by caring for his family, friends and neighbors; often putting their needs before his own. Matt’s relationship with the Lord encouraged and sustained him during all the times of physical challenges he has endured especially in the recent years. Matt and Hollee attended First Baptist Church of El Dorado Springs during the early years of their marriage and later attended the Church of God (Holiness) for the past several years. He attended the Sheldon Baptist Church and Milo Baptist Church as a child.

Matt is survived by his wife, Hollee, of the home; son, Wyatt Cross, of Sheldon; and daughter, Rachel Cross, of the home. Other survivors include: brother, Ray (Kim) Cross, of Cedar Rapids, IA; cousin, Elizabeth Winfrey, of Humansville; and father-in-law, G.H. Sublett, of Casa Grande, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Quincy and Margaret Cross.

Memorial services will begin held on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. at the El Dorado Springs Church of God (Holiness) with Rev. Joe Trussell officiating.  His cremains will be placed in Olive Branch Cemetery at a later date by his family.  Arrangements were under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to help the family with expenses and left at the funeral home.
