Merle Wayne Leedy

Merle Wayne Leedy was born at home in Vernon County October 10, 1943, to Merle Leedy and Rena Gilliam Leedy. He grew up in a house of faith and gave his life to Christ at a young age. Wayne spent his childhood on a farm in Cedar County and moved to town to finish school. It was there that he met the love of his life, Linda Kay Mitchem Leedy. They were high school sweethearts, and on April 25, 1964, he made her his bride. They remained sweethearts for the next fifty-six years, one never far from the other, loving and supporting each other – the epitome of the love described in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Wayne and Linda built a family together with their children Kimberly Lynn Fleming (Bill) and Randall Wayne Leedy (Lori). They were blessed with five grandchildren: Justin Fleming (Ashley) of Springfield MO, Bailee Fleming of Nevada MO, Brittany Leedy Figaro (Patrick) of Richwood TX, Bethany Leedy Walker (Brandon) of El Dorado Springs, Michaela Leedy Robertson (Kyle) of El Dorado Springs, MO, and three great-granddaughters, Alexandria, Olivia, and Eleanor Robertson. Wayne cherished being a grandfather and papa to his grand and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Debbie Heigele (Bob), many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wayne was preceded in death by his mom, dad, and sister, Marcy Owens.

Wayne was a hardworking man. He worked at Dairy Concepts, retiring after forty years of service. After his retirement, he worked with Uncle Rollie transporting vehicles for Fugate Motors. Together they shared many laughs and adventures. He had a great love of cars, with his dream car being a ‘49 Mercury.

Wayne was a kind and caring soul who enjoyed the simple things in life. While he was a man of few words, he was well-known for his quick-witted humor. He will be dearly missed by the friends and family he leaves behind.

A funeral service for Wayne Leedy was held Monday, January 25, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Interment followed at the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Justin Fleming, Brandon Walker, Patrick Figaro, Kyle Robertson, Darrell Dean Smith, and Lonnie McNeece.
