Pearl (Messick) Haynes was born on February 17, 1933, in Cedar Springs, Missouri, the daughter of Clarence Onis Messick and Lena Dell (Kirkpatrick) Messick; one of six children. She grew up on a farm at the top of a hill in rural Cedar County and attended a one-room schoolhouse.

While still in high school, she met her future husband, Roy J. Haynes, at a camp meeting at Herriman Chapel near her home. Pearl graduated from El Dorado Springs High School as a member of the Class of 1951 on May 17th and married Roy the following day in Kansas City, Missouri. They lived in FL, TN, and CA while Roy was in the USMC and settled in Kansas City. They had a son, Darrell, and a daughter, Dian (Haynes) LeBlanc.

The family moved to Wichita in 1969. After raising their children, Pearl worked at the Dold Packing Company and as a realtor at Century 21 Real Estate. Her interests through the years included cake decorating, growing African violets, collecting vintage cookie cutters, and gardening, and she loved being a mom and a grandma. She loved to laugh, to celebrate special occasions, and to tell interesting stories about her life growing up. Family and faith were the most important things to her.

Pearl died on March 14, 2019, at St. Teresa Hospital due to complications following emergency surgery. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers, Al and Ray Messick, and sisters, Vada Tinsley and Ruby Messick. She is survived by her husband, Roy; son, Darrell Haynes (Tammy); and daughter, Dian LeBlanc (Andy); granddaughter, Holly Haynes; step-grandson, Chris LeBlanc; sister, Louise Conway; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Messick and Aletta Messick, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Service was Monday, March 18, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
