Rebecca Jean long, 65, passed away Nov. 15, 2017, in  the Freeman West Hospital, Joplin,  after a lengthy illness. Becky was born to Austin and Mary Gooden on Oct 5, 1952. She was united in marriage to Carl Edward Long on Nov. 22, 1970.

Becky lived around the Montevallo area most of her life graduating from the El Dorado Springs High School in 1970. She worked at Cedar County Memorial Hospital for several years.

She enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother. She spent many hours in the kitchen baking and making candies, cookies and all kinds of sweet tasting goodies for family, friends and events. You knew she would be there with many tasty treats.

She loved her dogs, Casper and Daisy, and her cats. They were like babies to her.

Becky attended the Montevallo Baptist Church as a youth and, as instructed, thought she accepted  the Lord as her Savior. Later, when she joined Liberty Missionary Baptist Church at Virgil City, she told her experience of salvation. She said she was walking  along a road when the load of conviction got so heavy she had to pray. The Lord flooded her soul with peace and joy when He saved her.

In addition to her husband, Carl, she is survived by her two daughters – Carla Marie Long and Chuck of Montevallo and Michelle Jean Griffin (Long) and husband, Raymond, of Nevada. She is also survived by her four brothers – Dusty Pennington of Nevada, Homer Gooden of Montevallo, Sam Gooden and wife, Betty, of Dederick and Paul Gooden and wife, Tina, of Lamar; three sisters – Ruth Woods and husband, J.R., of Nevada, Laura Cook and husband, Kelvin, of Montevallo and Pam Shipp and husband, Michael, of Nevada; two brothers-in-law, John Dedrick and Pat Chastain, both of Nevada; sister-in-law, Eileen Gooden, of El Dorado Springs.

She was a loving grandmother of nine grandchildren – Cody, Julie, Ashley, Blake, Raymond III, Christina, Kayla and Jeremy and Jessica and Brendon and several more who called her “Grandma.” She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and had many friends.

Becky was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents, Austin and Mary Gooden; brother, Larry Gooden, and two baby brothers, James and Danny; two sisters, Linda Dedrick and Rose Chastain; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cleo and Thelma Long; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Doris long.

Services were held Saturday, Nov. 18, in Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, with Brother Bobby Budd officiating. Music was “Amazing Grace,” “Farther Along” and “On The Wings Of A Snow White Dove.” Casketbearers were Daniel Long, Tommy Long, Bobby Hada, Colby Fiala, Dakota Long, J.R. Marshall, Lane Lasey and Mike Lasey.

Interment was in Sand Ridge Cemetery, El Dorado Springs, south of Pace Town, under direction of Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
