Robert Paul “Bob” Hutsell, age 80, of Blue Springs, Missouri, formerly of El Dorado Springs, passed away Aug. 23, 2020, at KU Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born at Willowville in Cedar County, Missouri, to James and Eula Hutsell on May 29, 1940.
Bob attended El Dorado Springs public schools. After graduating in 1959, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA, for four years. While serving in the Navy, he married the love of his life, Virginia Black, on Feb. 28, 1960, and she survives in the home. Once discharged from the service, Bob worked for Leo Green at Standard Oil in El Dorado Springs. He later moved to Blue Springs attended Missouri Institute of Technology, and then began working at Old America Insurance Company as a supervisor of computer operations, retiring in 1985.
Bob enjoyed retirement life, devoting his time to his wife and family and his best friend and K-9 pal, “Bo.” His hobbies included attending car shows, following the Kansas City Chiefs (witnessing two Chief’s Super Bowls), and following the Kansas City Royals. A highlight of his life was attending a Kansas City Royals World Series game in 2015 with his brother Gary. He also loved going to his Monday Coffee Club with his buddies Tom, Wayne, Gary, and Bob. His latest pride and joy was his new red Chevy Impala that he polished every day, whether it left his garage or not.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; three children: Bobbie (Gale) York, Gala Lynn Hutsell, and Anna Russo, all of Blue Springs; four grandchildren: Mark Allen, Ginny, Samantha, and Toby; ten great-grandchildren: Payton, Hunter, Kemper, Remi, Emma, Ellie, Enzley, Axel, Athena, and Landon; his sister, Marilyn Gannaway, of Nevada; his brother, Gary (Vicki) Hutsell, of El Dorado Springs; his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hutsell; and his brothers-in-law, Bob Neff and Allen Black.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents, James and Eula Hutsell; his son, James Charles (Butch) Hutsell; his sister, Carolyn Neff; and his brothers, Bill Hutsell and Jim Hutsell.
A funeral service for Bob Hutsell was held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home in El Dorado Springs with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Interment followed in El Dorado Springs City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Gary Hutsell, Mark Allen, Toby Russo, Alex Steen, Brian Bond, and Gale York. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Hutsell and Tom Roberts.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and left at the funeral home.
