Sharen Kay Mogan, 67, passed away Feb. 15, 2023, due to complications of cancer and other illnesses. She was born Nov. 10, 1955, in Kansas City to Vera and Darrell Mogan. She attended school in El Dorado Springs where, in High School, she met Kenny Gilbert. After a short romance the two were married. From this marriage came three children: Kathy, Kevin and Krystal. Sharen travelled the country with Kenny and Knox Construction, living in multiple cities and states, making many friends along the way.
After nearly 20 years of marriage, Sharen and Kenny divorced (though they did remain friends) and Sharen returned to El Dorado Springs. Sharen worked at different jobs throughout her years in El Dorado, including Dunbrook, S&B liquor and Dollar General. She enjoyed seeing familiar faces while working. Sharen moved to Arkansas in 1998 where she later married Paul Duckson. After a short marriage they divorced, and she returned to El Dorado where she remained until her health would no longer allow her. She then split her time living with her two daughters.
Sharen worried about everything but that worry came from love. She loved her family, her kids and grandkids deeply. She would text every morning “Have a good day luv u” (sometimes at 4:30 in the morning on a Saturday). It is that love that will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.
Sharen is survived by her two wonderfully awesome daughters, Kathy Gilbert and Krystal Landon, and son-in-law, Chris Landon; brother, Darrel, and wife, Judi Mogan; sister, Beverly, and husband, Mark Voegele; sister, Carolyn (Susie) Vessey; and brother, Gerald Mogan; grandchildren, Kassandra, Megan, Darius (Andrew), Dante, Ethan, Amanda, Kourtney, Anthony, Joshua, Noah, Abbigail, Sery and Matthew; plus four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She even loved and accepted all of her fur grandbabies, except Layla, the “annoying, attention seeking dog” (She really did secretly love her too).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Darrel and Vera Mogan; sister, Edna Still; brother, Ronald Mogan, and her beloved son, Kevin Gilbert.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, 3130 E Hwy. 54, El Dorado Springs. A “potluck” will be held at Grace UMC 201 East Broadway, El Dorado Springs.
Do Not Worry- From Matthew Chapter 6(niv)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
