Stephen Ray Haile, 80 of Rich Hill, died Friday, Sept. 20, in Butler (MO) Center.

He was born on March 26, 1939, to Guy Haile and Eunice (Bair) Haile. Steve graduated from El Dorado Springs High School with the class of 1957.

On Feb. 23, 1963, Steve married Kay Poulter at the First Christian Church in Rich Hill. This union was blessed with a son, Stephen Brent Haile.  They were happily married for over 56 years.

Steve held many jobs over the years, but he found his calling when he became a Boilermaker.  He loved this job and was a member of the Boilermakers Local Union #83.  He retired in 1997.

Steve was proud to have served as the District Deputy Grand Lecturer with the Masonic Lodge.  He was a member of the Rich Hill Masons and served as Past Master.  He was also a past Board member of the Rich Hill schools, a member of the Bates County Elks Lodge and a past member of the Rich Hill Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Kay, of the home; son, Brent Haile, and wife. Sheri; two grandchildren, Mason and Madison.  He is also survived by siblings – Guy (Fuzzy) Haile, James Haile, Chuck Haile, Barbara Mason, Kathie Davenport and Lynn Beth Sloan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Gregory Layne Haile; and siblings – Doris Strong, Roy Haile, Leonard Haile, Mary Ann Dempsey, Bill Haile and Carol Whorton.

Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Heuser Funeral Home in Rich Hill.  Burial was in the Green Lawn Cemetery.  Contributions may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital or House of Hounds in care of Heuser Funeral Home P.O. Box 42 Rich Hill, MO 64779.
