Zita Mae Garland Curtis, 86, Kansas City, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2017.

Zita was born July 15, 1931, in Crawford County, KS, to Charlie and Katherine Garland.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Henry E. Curtis; granddaughter, Sherry Curtis; sisters, Dorothy (Garland) Brosam and Ida M. (Garland) Kennedy; brothers – Glen Garland, Russell Garland, Oris Garland and Elmer Hopkins.

She is survived by her sisters, Ethel Irene (Garland) Hardine, of Frotenac, KS, and Wanda L. (Garland) Cully, of Odessa; her children  -Linda (Ron) Wineinger – Sedalia, Charles (Caryn) Curtis – Hume, Geneva Ikerd – Hume and Guinn (Pam) Curtis – Olathe, KS; grandchildren – Gary (Amy) Haulmark, Cory (Amy) Hunt, Steven (Brooke) Haulmark, Amy Pyles, Chris Curtis, Richard Curtis and Jennifer (Christian) Bitner; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.

Zita was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She and her husband, Henry, traveled for 20 years in an RV, volunteering with several Wildlife organizations across the county. She volunteered with the Branson Chamber of Commerce for 15 years, was a long time bowler and avid card player.

Memorial services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 25, in The Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave.

The family requests donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or Compassionate Care Hospice, 10200 W. 75th St., Suite 100, Bldg B, Shawnee Mission, KS, 66204.

In addition, the family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to the wonderful Compassionate Care Hospice staff.
