Dains Fish Farm

A guy is trotlining in the south lake at Schell-Osage catching channel up to 8 and 9 lbs.

He started with with brown carp, perch and cut shad. He came back today and got 4 1⁄2 lbs. of brown carp.

They are catching crappie in the south lake around stumps on black and chartreuse jigs. I just heard that Monday. I asked him, “Live bait?”

He said, “No, plastic in black and chartreuse.”

I asked him if they will come back toward the shore again. He said he fishes over there all the time, and it just seems like right before they close it for duck season that crappie will come in to the banks again. People get real excited about crappie fishing again.

There may be other people fishing in the river since some people say it has some current now. I haven’t heard the reports yet.

Fishing is pretty good in the river. A guy came in today and bought some perch. He said they brought in a 50 pounder this morning. He didn’t say if it was a blue or a flathead. He had some smaller one two.

Another guy came in. They have been catching the flats and the blues.

One of them was up by Indian Springs. He didn’t say exactly where. My brother was fishing where the Sac and Osage meet. He caught a big flathead and was about to dip it up. When he touched it, the fish took off. He waited a little while and caught another 40 lb. flathead and landed it.

They were biting on crawdads, perch and little willow shad, two or three inches long.

He said you find where the shad are and that’s where you want to sit and fish.
