Lamar angler Byron Maze topped the field with the only 5-fish limit to win the American Bass Anglers D126 final 1-day tournament of the 2016 season on Saturday, July 23.

Maze weight was 10.29 lbs. His partner, Jessi Esparza of Arkansas, also weighed in a fish. Second place went to a new ABA member, Andy Greek, of Springfield with four fish that weighed 9.98 lb. anchored with Big Bass of the tournament, a 4.5 lb. largemouth. Greek’s partner, Bill Amis, also weighed in two fish. Jay Carter took 3rd with four fish weighing 8.28 lbs. 4th was Becky Minor with 4.84 lbs.

Anglers fish for cash, prizes and points. Maze took $579; Greek’s winnings were $566. Carter took home $115 and Minor won $86.

The points awarded qualified these anglers to fish the upcoming two-day Championship to be held on Stockton Lake Aug. 27-28.

Very warm weather, very little wind and a day following a full moon could have been some conditions that made for the bite to be really slow. A third of the field of anglers were not able to catch a keeper. Only one limit was weighed, only two bags of four fish and one bag with three fish.

The 2017 season will begin in the fall. The schedule is forth-coming. It is anticipated there will be at least three fall tournaments and four spring/summer events.
