The Cedar County Commission met October 7,2024. Present: Kenneth Thornton; Presiding Commissioner; Ted Anderson, Southern Commissioner; Don Boultinghouse, Northern Commissioner; and Anna Ritter, Deputy County Clerk.
Sheriff James McCrary with weekly reports. McCrary agreed to give the extra Explorer to Assessor Office. Explorer will be available after the radios and equipment have been removed. McCrary provided the Commission with the agreement with K.C.P.D. for a guarantee of 20 beds at $60 per day. He is not leaning in favor of this due to the increase in staffing needs, training, and the housing of multiple gangs that would be needed in our Sheriffs Department. As this will impose additional threats to his staff. McCrary provided a proposal from Accurate Controls for Jail communications. Last year spent $121,000 (Grant) + $21,000 for repairs. McCrary recommends the Bronze plan and entering an agreement to save 5% on any repairs required. He believes it would be a wash but will save us on what we spent in total including the amount from the grant. (3-year contract is $44,000). Provides in person services once a year for maintenance. If needed more than that we would pay extra for it. McCrary is requesting a reserved parking spot for the Court Bailiff. The Commission agreed to provide the first or second spot on the side entrance of the Court House. The sheriff will have a sign made and put up in the designated spot.
