The Cedar County Commission met Sept. 29. Present: Kenneth Thornton, presiding commissioner; Ron Alumbaugh, northern commissioner; Ted Anderson, southern commissioner, Carla Lowe, treasurer and Chrislynn Price, county clerk.

9 a.m. Met James McCrary, brought up the loss of deputies due to conjuctive wage. Will be three deputies short in a few weeks or so. Not sure if they will be able to provide overnight surveillance due to not having enough deputies. Discussed increasing starting salary for deputies. Discussed LEST sales tax. Around 30 inmates, Anderson made a motion to approve Federal Licensing for Fire Departments to be take out of the 911 Fund in the amount of $476, seconded by Alumbaugh, motion passed unanimously with Thornton agreeing to the motion.

9:35 a.m. Commission reviewed and signed court orders numbers 122761-122774.

9:47 a.m. Thornton reviewed and signed emergency performance grant, WIC grant and affidavit off work authorization. Thornton also signed insurance claim through AIG for roof damage from April of 2024.

11:01 a.m. Met with Clay Jeffries, discussed DSSSF and how the issue had been resolved.

11:30 a.m. Conference call with Larua Woody, update on opioid progress, really feels that she is connecting with the community. Will get receipts together so she can turn them in to accounts payable. Discussed that she cannot afford air fair to conference in Washington DC, wanted to see if commission had funds available to help. Commission will discuss further at a later date. Discussed display in courthouse, last day it will be up will be Oct. 2.

1 p.m. Met with DJ Ford, gave weekly update.

1:35 p.m. Amber and Haleigh from Simmons Bank, Thornton signed contract for bed that was approved in July.

2:20 p.m.Met with Tabitha Nance (Evidence Officer) from sheriff office, discussed moving evidence, Nance will discuss this with the sheriff and get back with the commission.

2:35 p.m. Price brought up that we are stacked full of old computers and printers again, asked for approval to call computer recycling and have them come recycle all equipment that is broken down in the vault, and other places in the courthouse and or sheriff office. Motion made by Anderson to approve the request, Alumbaugh seconded and motion passed unanimously with Thornton voting yes.

Reviewed and approved payrol and accounts payable bills.
