The Cedar County Commission met Oct. 6. Present: Kenneth Thornton, presiding commissioner; Ron Alumbaugh, northern commissioner; Ted Anderson, southern commissioner; Carla Lowe, treasurer; Peggy Kenny, commission assistant and Chrislynn Price, count clerk.
9 a.m. Collector Lisa Nelson presented court orders to be signed. Commission signed court orders number 122642-122850, missing, 122849, 122774-122727, 122723-122713, 122702-122701, 122657-122656 due to being 2025.
9:10 a.m. Assessor Leah Morton presented weekly report, commission signed real estate court orders for 2025.
9:24 a.m. Thornton reviewed and signed computer recycling agreement.
9:32 a.m. Mikayla Neil University of MU Extension, October is 4H enrollment, six club in Cedar County, livestock bus tour in September, and keeping a spot in the newspaper to trey and ensure 4H is still being noticed. MU Extension office was impacted by the Big Beautiful Bill. Nutrition for Cedar County will be more geared toward adults; Cedar County will have more nutrition information than human development. There will still be resources and education online.
9:43 a.m. Commission signed and approved Aflac payment in the amount of $1,484.10 due to missing payment which the clerk and treasurer felt was from legacy software.
9:45 a.m. Clay Jefferies with sheriff office, Blue Shield Grant was approved. Thornton signed Blue Shield Grant in the amount of $50,000. Discussed that body cams will be a requirement from insurance, will try to see if grants are available and reach out to Hickory County to see what they had implemented. Inmate count is around 35.
10 a.m. Commission left to do a pre-site inspection with the health department.
1:15 p.m. Treasurer Carla Lowe discussed CD maturing at Great Southern Bank. Commission discussed how much to pull from the CD. Commission agreed to $225,000 or possible invest short term or look into where we can withdrawal with out penalty too.
1:52 p.m. Conference call with Victoria Barker, discussed WIC rent that was signed and approved with Family Restoration Center, Tori will discuss with Cheryl with Family Restoration Center and send invoices to the clerkâs office. Also brought up retention incentives with the PHIG grant, commission will further discuss if they will allow this.
2:20 p.m. Anderson motioned to approve investment policy mandated by the state. Thornton seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously with Alumbaugh voting yes.
Reviewed and approved payroll and accounts payable bills.
3:30 p.m. Commission adjourned.
