The Cedar County Commission met February 2, 2026. Present: Kenneth Thornton; Presiding Commissioner; Ted Anderson, Southern Commissioner, Ron Alumbaugh, Northern Commissioner, Peggy Kenney, Commission Advisement, Roger Hamby, Guest.
9:00 a.m. Assessor Leah Morton presented weekly report, discussion on concern about Paid in Protest property taxes and SB3.
9:15 a.m. Gordon Gray with concern about 425 and 1800 rd.
9:35 a.m. Discussion on Fentanyl not only being in the area and the Circuit Court has really made good use of funds for Recovery Court.
10:00 a.m. Mikayla Neil with update on MU Extension Office
10:30 a.m. UndersheriffKevin Lowe with Cedar County Sheriff Office, inmate count of 29, brought in City Tele Coin Contract to help pay for body cams, need $18,000 up front and quotes to outfit the new sheriffvehicles, Anderson moved to approve the Pursuit Specialties bid at $57,250 with $5,000 being taken out of LEST and the rest being discretionary funds. Also discussed the sheriffs office selling 3 Ford Taurus’s and donating a Truck to Election Services.
11:00 a.m. Greg Williams with Higginbotham begin working on renewal March 1, Cedar County is looking really good with claims being below average.
11:15 a.m. Coroner Danny Green presented report
11:30 a.m. Rick Coale, Rick Brown, and Haileigh Nelson with Simmons Bank to discuss Hazel Dell Cemetery. Carla Lowe to close Hazel Dell account held by the county to be transferred to Hazel Dell CD’s will be closed and forwarded to Hazel Dell upon maturity.
11:45 a.m. Rep from Eric Schmidt’s office, discussed Jail and federal inmate contracts
1:00 p.m. DJ Ford, Road and Bridge Supervisor with weekly update
3:00 p.m. Discussion with plumber, needs 125 lithium batteries for bathroom facilities, order and call when they come in.
