Arrests and Reports

Sheriff Lee Hilty reported deputies made arrests and took multiple reports during the week of October 15, 2024 through October 21, 2024

October 15th – Stealing in Taberville –  On October 15th, a St. Clair County Deputy responded to a call for service in the Taberville area in regards to someone stealing property. Upon arrival, the property owner told the deputy that between Sunday, October 13th, and October 15th, two firearms were stolen out of a 2018 RAM Truck. The firearms were described as a stainless Taurus .44 Tracker with a 4” barrel and a Youth Model Remington 700, with a Vortex Crossfire II V-Plex Scope. A suspect was named, the deputy took photographs and collected evidence at the scene. The value of the stolen property was estimated at $1,350.00.

October 15th – Stolen Vehicle in Lowry (Recovered) –  On October 15th, St. Clair County Deputies responded to a call for service on Hancock Street in Lowry City in reference to a possible stolen vehicle that had been abandoned. Upon arrival, the deputies immediately noticed that the ignition to the vehicle had been torn out, and after gaining access to the vehicle, discovered information that led them to the appropriate owner. Conversation with the truck owner confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen, and a suspect was named.

Contact was made with the suspect and a further investigation led deputies to arrest Samuel Betancourt for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle – 1st Degree. A warrant was later filed charging Samuel officially with a Class D Felony charge of Stealing – Motor Vehicle/Watercraft/Aircraft and a bond was set for $15,000 cash or surety.

October 16th – Search Warrant in Lowry –  On October 16th, St. Clair County Deputies executed a search warrant on a property on NE 201 Road in Lowry City. The deputies were able to access the interior without incident, and immediately identified the owner of the property. During the search of the property, a large quantity of a crystal substance that was believed to be methamphetamine, a stolen vehicle, and a quantity of money were seized.

Eric Engeman was arrested and later had a warrant issued for Trafficking Drugs or Attempt – 1st Degree – Over Statutory Amount, a class A Felony, and was given a bond of $75,000 cash or surety. Eric was transported to the St. Clair County Jail and released to the custody of the Jail Staff.

David Christian was arrested for a Felony charge of Trafficking Drugs or Attempt – 2nd Degree, and was booked and released pending formal charges.

October 16th – Domestic Assault in Osceola –  On October 16, St. Clair County Deputies responded to a call for service on NE 1271 Road in reference to a domestic disturbance. On the way to the location, a deputy found a man walking alongside NE 1271 Road, that had blood on his face. The individual identified himself as part of the domestic disturbance, and a further investigation identified him as the primary aggressor. The property owner was also identified, and found that he had an outstanding warrant out of Clay County.

Jamie Presley was arrested for Domestic Assault – 4th Degree, and was transported to the St. Clair County Jail for a book and release, pending formal charges.

Jeremy Presley was arrested for a Clay County Warrant charging him with Driving While Revoked/Suspended, and was transported to the St. Clair County Jail with a $500.00 cash only bond.

October 17th – Stolen Vehicle in Osceola –  On October 17th, St. Clair County Deputies responded to a call for service in regards to a stolen vehicle. St. Clair County Jail staff reported that after the suspect was released from the jail, he stole a county owned vehicle. St. Clair County Deputies were able to catch the suspect on 82 Highway, and then arrested Jamie Presley for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle – 1st Degree, and Resisting/Interfering with Arrest for a Felony.

Jamie was transported to the St. Clair County Jail, and the following day, a warrant was issued to him formally charging him with a Felony charge of Tampering with Motor Vehicle – 1st Degree. The bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety.

October 17th – Stolen Property in Rockville –  On October 17th, a St. Clair County Deputy responded to a call for service on NE Highway H in Rockville, in regards to stolen property. Upon arrival, the property owner stated that a 2012 Camo John Deere Gator XVV with a 25 gallon sprayer on the back, a Stihl Backpack Blower, and a Stihl Chainsaw had been stolen from the property. Evidence and photographs were taken from the property by the Deputy, and a report was filed.

Arrests and Reports

Sheriff Lee Hilty reported deputies made arrests and took multiple reports during the week of October 22, 2024 through October 28, 2024

October 22nd – Stolen Horse from Osceola – On October 22nd, a St. Clair County Deputy was contacted at the Sheriff’s Office in regards to a stolen horse from NE 176 Private Road in Osceola. The horse was described as a 10-15 year old Blue Roan Appaloosa with a light blanket marking on his back. The stolen horse is valued at $7,000.

October 24th – Warrant Arrest (Failure to Appear) – On October 24th, a St. Clair County Deputy arrested Terry Wayne Johnson at the Jackson County Jail on a St. Clair County warrant. The warrant charged Terry with a Failure To Appear on an original charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance Except 35 Grams or Less of Marijuana/Synthetic Cannabinoid. Terry was transported to the St. Clair County Jail, and the bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.

October 25th – Warrant Arrest (Failure to Appear) – On October 25th, a St. Clair County Deputy arrested Christian Gaines at the Cole County Jail on five St. Clair County Failure to Appear warrants. The warrants were all Failure to Appear with the original charges being as follows: Failure to Register Motor Vehicle – Misdemeanor B; Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle – Misdemeanor A; Owner Operating a Motor Vehicle without Maintaining Financial Responsibility – Misdemeanor D; Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Valid License – Misdemeanor D; Resisting/Interfering with Arrest – Misdemeanor A. Christian was transported to the St. Clair County Jail and the bonds for the warrants totaled to $5,000 cash or surety, and $1,050 cash only.

October 25th – Warrant Arrest (Kansas) – On October 25th, a St. Clair County Deputy performed a traffic stop on a vehicle that Dalton Cox was a passenger of. After speaking with the driver and Dalton, the deputy received information from St. Clair County Dispatch that Dalton had an extraditable warrant out of Johnson County, Kansas for Possession of Marijuana. Dalton was transported to the St. Clair County Jail pending extradition, with a bond set at $2,500 payable only in Kansas.

October 25th – Warrant Arrest (Failure to Appear) – On October 25th, a St. Clair County Deputy performed a traffic stop on a vehicle that Julio Rodriguz Jr. was a passenger of, for speeding, on North 13 Highway. After speaking with the driver and Julio, the deputy received information from St. Clair County Dispatch that Julio had an active warrant for Failure to Appear with an original charge of DWI – Prior. Julio was transported to the St. Clair County Jail and the bond was set at $500 cash or surety.

October 26th – Property Damage in Lowry City – On October 26th, a St. Clair County Deputy responded to a call for service on the 300 block of Main Street in Lowry City, in reference to property damage. The deputy met with the property owner, who showed that an unknown person attempted to break into his building, and damaged a large air compressor and breaker box in doing so. The cost to the damaged property was estimated between $2,000 and $3,000. The deputy completed a canvas of the neighborhood, collected evidence and photographs, and filed a report.

October 26th – Warrant Arrest (Failure to Appear) – On October 25th, a St. Clair County Deputy responded to a call for service in reference to people camping on the property without the property owners’ permission. After the investigation and an eviction notice was served, the deputy received information from St. Clair County Dispatch that one of the individuals camping, Daniel Hickman, had an extraditable warrant out of Clinton PD for Failure to Appear. The original charge on the warrant was Driving While Revoked/Suspended, and Daniel was transported to the St. Clair County Jail with a bond set at $500 cash only.

October 27th – Misdemeanor Arrest – Felony Charge (Assault) – On October 27th, a St. Clair County Deputy responded to a call for service on WW Highway, in Osceola, in reference to an assault. After arriving at the scene, it was reported that Blake Lindsey had assaulted a juvenile multiple times, leaving the juvenile scared. Further investigation led the deputy to finding Blake at the Casey’s General Store in Lowry City, and thus arrested Blake for a Misdemeanor charge of Assault – 4th Degree. Blake was transported to the St. Clair County Jail, and formal charges were later filed for a Felony charge of Harrassment – 1st Degree and a Misdemeanor charge of Assault – 5th Degree. The bond was then set at $5,000 cash or surety.
