Lydia Eason represented the state of Missouri in the VFW Voice of Democracy competition in Washington DC.

Lydia was a part of the procession of state winners onto the stage. She then anxiously waited for her name to be announced in the scholarship competition. Lydia’s entry survived the first round to advance into the second level of scholarships and was called at about the halfway point in the competition. She placed approximately 26th of the 50 state entries.

Lydia won a $1500 scholarship at the national competition. She can add this to the $2000 she received as the winner of the state competition.

Lydia was the first El Dorado Springs student to win the state Voice of Democracy competition. As a national competitor, Lydia is now forbidden to compete in future Voice of Democracy contests, but what a great achievement for this freshman.
