The Joplin Globe’s 41st annual spelling bee is set for 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School, 3401 Newman Road, Joplin. Friends and family members of bee contestants, as well as interested community members, are invited and welcome to attend this educational event. There is no charge, and it’s the best way to see area students’ spelling skills in action.

Sweaty palms, dry mouths and difficult words are the order of the day when The Joplin Globe presents the annual spelling bee. The event is held at Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School, 3401 Newman Road, Joplin Mo.

The work begins in January when schools in the Globe’s circulation area register and receive a study list of approximately 2,500 words. Schools hold individual bees, narrowing it down to one winner from fourth, fifth or sixth-grade to compete in the Globe’s Tournament of Champions.
