This past Friday your hometown Bulldogs traveled south once again to face off against the Bison of Buffalo. It was the first contest to be counted towards a conference championship. The Bulldogs fell 53-12. A slow start plagued the visiting team which forced an uphill battle the remaining portion of the game. Your Bulldogs never quit and fought to the last whistle.

Offensively, the Bulldogs were once again led by senior Logan Speer and sophomore Landon Murry, each scoring one of the two Bulldogs touchdowns. It was the second week in row the senior had 100 yards or more rushing. Murry, however, is still averaging 100 yards per game. Sophomore center Rees McCullough also provided some well executed snaps from the center position while also opposing consistent pressure. Beckner added, “Rees has done a great job at the center position. We got added into the defensive mix week 1 and have done it in stride. Been very proud and pleased with him and his efforts. He is already pretty good as a pup, the sky’s the limit for him regardless of his age because he is such a hard worker. A great example for all our players.” The target of Speer’s touchdown pass was junior Aiden Walker, his first of the season. “Aiden is a hard worker, gives great effort the majority of the time, his route speciality is the exact route he scored on, I am very happy to see him continue to execute and get that score.”

On the defensive side of the ball, it appeared the Bulldogs struggled to adapt to the Bison’s overall team speed. Beckner stated, “You know going in, I knew they had lost a lot of speed, but their top three dudes are still really fast and at times made us look really slow. That is going to be the case in football sometimes, that’s where our pursuit drills and other techniques we practice comes into play. We didn’t do a very good job of correlating the drill work to the game. We have to get that figured out moving forward.”

After three away games to start the season the Bulldogs finally play at home this Friday against the Blackhawks of Adrian. “Another week is gone, and with that 1⁄3 of our season is already gone. It goes so fast, we still have opportunities to achieve our season goals, there is a lot to still be playing for, one loss will not make or break our season. This team is full of fighters, they will stay the course and right the ship. I have faith in them and in our staff. I am extremely excited for our home opener.”

Come out this Friday @ 7 p.m. and cheer your Bulldogs take on the Blackhawks.
