Last year, the El Dorado Springs Bulldogs suffered a bitter defeat to the Pembroke Hill Raiders 18-20 in overtime. Will this Friday night be redemption time?

The game is slated to start at 7 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium this Friday night after a 6:30 p.m. Senior Night featuring 14 players.

Tuesday the Sun spoke with Head Coach Derek Scroggins about his team and the upcoming game.

He said, “They have good athletes. They returned a lot of kids from last year.

Q. Tell me about out team.

“We have a lot of strong leadership. The kids are real solid. They have worked hard in the off season and have done a great job getting ready.”

Do you have a lot of people returning?

“Yes. We have a large senior group. We returned a lot of kids that started on both sides of the ball so we feel pretty confident going into this year.”

Q. Are you using the same style offense?

“We changed it up a little bit. We utilize the type of kids we have a little bit more. We might throw it a little bit more than we have in the past. We are still using a lot of different options of who can run the ball and things along those lines.”

Q. Do you have a name for your offense?

“Not really. Just something that Coach Payne and I came up with. So far, we like our look.

Q. How many kids do you have out?

“Fifty-five players and two managers.”

Q. Any idea how you are going to approach the game?

“We have what we believe is a pretty good plan of attack which is mostly focusing on what our kids do the best and making sure we try to play as clean a game as possible and kinda take care of ourselves.“

Q. It’s senior night. How many seniors do you have?

“14.”

Q. Who is going to quarterback?

“Same as last year – Trey Babcock.”

Q. Who are the rest of the skilled players?

“Tanner Witt and Gavin Morgan are our running backs. Receiver wise, we have a whole bunch of them. We have six different guys that will see varsity time out there. It will be kinda touch and go and see how things shake out after the first game.”

“They should be one of our toughest games of the year. They are a class larger than us.”
