On Saturday, the El Dorado Springs Track team competed in the Class 3 District 7 Track meet at Buffalo. They were competing for one of 4 tickets in each event, to help continue their season and take their efforts to the next level of competition, the Class 3 Section 4 Sectional Track Meet which will be held this coming Saturday in Odessa, MO. Others were just trying to finish on a high note, concluding the season with their best performance. And they did just that, as we saw 6 new personal best performances on the girls side and 12 new personal best performances on the boys side.
As far as results go, on the girls side, the 4 x 800 team, consisting of Morgan Mitchell, Audrey Goatley, Kenli Rader and Hannah Klaiber, got things started off right, finishing 3rd with a school record breaking time of 10:14.43, punching their first ticket to the sectional meet. The top 3 teams in our District are ranked in the top 7 in the state. Also punching their ticket to the sectional track meet were the following: Morgan Mitchell, which placed 4th in the 300 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 52.61, Hannah Klaiber which won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:26.66 and Audrey Goatley which won the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:46. Other placers on the day were as follows: Colbie Wood, 8th in the 1600 meter run with a personal best time of 6:02.82, Christian Steuck, 8th in the 300 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 55.93, Camille Bland, 8th in the high jump with a jump of 1.35 meters (4’ 5.25”). Also, the girls 4 x 200 meter relay, consisting of Olivia Graves, Camden Julian, Kiera Strauch and Hannah Klaiber, finished 8th with a season best time of 1:59.50.
On the boys side, the boys 4 x 800, consisting of James King, Braxton Watts, Connor Goatley and Daelen Ackley, also got things started off right for the boys team, finishing 1st with a school record breaking time of 8:18.90. This broke a 44 year old school record, dating back to 1978. Also punching their tickets to the sectional meet on the boys side were as follows: Daelen Ackley, 1st, in the 1600 meter run, with a time of 4:27.76, Daelen, 1st, in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03 followed by teammate Connor Goatley in 3rd with a time of 2:07, Daelen also went on to win the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:46.64, and the final ticket punched was by Kuliath Kephart, taking 2nd in the boys high jump with a personal best jump of 1.80 meters (5’ 10.75”). Other boys placing in the top 8 were as follows: Kuliath Kephart, 6th, in the 100 meter dash with a personal best time of 11.65, Justin Brown, 8th, in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 23.75, Connor Goatley, 5th, in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:56.16, Sam Margrave, 8th, in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.28. The boys 4 x 100 meter relay, consisting of Landon Murry, Will Seitz, Riley Massie and Justin Brown, finished 8th with a season best time of 47.45. The boys 4 x 200 meter relay, made up of the same members as the 4 x 100, finished 8th, with a season best time of 1:38.13. And the boys 4 x 400 team, consisting of Landon Murry, James King, Braxton Watts and Connor Goatley, finished 7th, with a time of 3:47.44.
Despite the conditions being much hotter than expected, everyone responded well and finished at a high level. In the end, the boys team finished 5th and the girls team finished 7th. It was a great day.
Next up for the Bulldogs track team, the Class 3 Section 4 Sectional track meet which will be held in Odessa on Saturday, May 21. Those competing ro the girls will be the girls 4 x 800 (Morgan Mitchell, Kenli Rader, Audrey Goatley and Hannah Klaiber), Morgan in the 300 meter hurdles, Hannah in the 800, Audrey in the 3200. Those competing for the boys will be the boys 4 x 800 (James King, Braxton Watts, Connor Goatley and Daelen Ackley), Daelen in the 800, 1600 and 3200, Connor in the 800 and Kuliath Kephart in the high jump.
