On Thursday October 9, the El Dorado Springs Cross Country team loaded up the bus to head to Buffalo for an afternoon set of races out at the Buffalo City Park and Airport. This is the 2nd year for this race to be at this location. The race takes the athletes through the city park which is fairly challenging and hilly and then sees them move over and run at the airport which is flatter and faster.

The middle school girls got things started off for the Bulldogs in the one lap, 1.5 mile race. 7th Grader Raelynn Watts led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with a time of 11:39. Paityn Ridgway, Alayna Coleman, Luna Chilton and Kyler Spencer also ran well with Raelynn. However, Lynzie Morgan was the athlete of the meet for the middle school girls having a break out race and really turning in a great performance for the Bulldogs. In the end, the MS Lady Bulldogs ended up in 7th place as a team.

The middle school Boys race was up next with Alex Melech leading the way for the Bulldogs , finishing with a time of 10:48 followed shortly after by Jaxen Simmons with a time of 11:04. Also running for the MS Bulldogs were Bradley Smith, Sawyer Francis, Grady Albert and Camdynn Penington. In the end the MS Bulldogs finished 13th as a team.

The HS Girls Race was next. Due to an injury the Lady Bulldogs were without Senior Braylie Steward, so Grace Seitz led the way for the Lady Bulldogs finishing 13th with a time of 13:06 followed shortly thereafter by Karcyn Rader who finished 16th with a time of 13:20. Riley Lee and Aleta Lyness also ran for the Lady Bulldogs.

The High School Boys 2 lap 5K race was up next for the Bulldogs. Wyatt Klaiber took the lead for the Bulldogs. Also in the field was Senior Sinry Mendoza from Hollister, in which Wyatt was unsuccessful at beating last year in track. Due to El Dorado Springs dropping down to class 2 this year in cross country, this would be the only matchup between Wyatt and Sinry. The first lap was pretty uneventful, with Wyatt leading and Sinry sitting on his hip, but then lap two happened and that is when the fireworks began. Sinry made a move and took the lead with Wyatt a short time later making a move and taking the lead. The pair traded jabs throughout the next exciting lap and in the end, Wyatt Klaiber edged ahead for the victory, setting the Course Record and Breaking the School Record for the 2nd time this year with a time of 15:02.51. Despite the excitement up front there was also another 113 competitors in the race. Shane Fletcher was the 2nd athlete for the Bulldogs, finishing in 4th place with a time of 16:46. Sylas Fletcher finished 12th with a time of 18:03. Also running for the Varsity Bulldogs was Rylan Coleman, Camdynn Watts who had a Personal Best race breaking 19 minutes for the first time and Gavin Boch. In the end the Bulldogs found themselves finishing atop the team standings winning the Team Title for the Buffalo Meet.

Wilson Burchett ran in the JV race for the Bulldogs, after missing a little time due to hip injury, and had a solid time of 20:39 in his comeback race. Also running in the JV race was Preston Moore who ran a Personal Best time of 22:23 and Wyatt Strawn.

Overall, this was a great day for the Bulldogs despite this being a warmer afternoon race with a pretty sizable field of teams. The Bulldogs performed well and held their own. Next up for the Bulldog Cross Country teams, they will enjoy being at home. This year, El Dorado Springs hosts the Ozark Highlands Conference Championship Meet out at the Gene Pray Memorial Golf Course this Thursday, October 16 with racing beginning at 4:00 pm. The following Tuesday, October 21 will be our regularly scheduled home meet with approximately 27 teams attending this year. This is due because El Dorado Springs will also play host for the MSHSAA Class 2 and Class 3 District 2 Championship Meet on Saturday November 1 to qualify for the MSHSAA Class 2 and Class 3 State Championships. It is a Great Time to be a Bulldog! GO BULLDOGS!
