The El Dorado Springs Bulldog football team traveled to East Newton on Friday night to take on the Patriots where the Bulldogs dominated the game and came away with a 46-0 victory.

The first quarter was a defensive battle between the two teams and came to an end in a 0-0 deadlock. In the second quarter the Patriots began to put a drive together and made it to the ElDo 17-yard line where they faced 4th and 5. When the Patriots opted to kick a field goal, the Bulldogs blocked the kick and took possession at their own 38-yard line.

ElDo put together a 10-play drive that was highlighted by a 33-yard run by Tanner Witt and capped off by a Trenton Hardie touchdown from 2 yards out. Witt added the 2-point conversion to give the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead.

On the next Patriot drive the ElDo defense again held firm forcing East Newton into a 3-and-out. The Bulldogs then used a 7-play drive, highlighted by a 20-yard pass from Trey Babcock to Witt and finished with a 2-yard pass from Babcock to Shelby McKinney for a touchdown. Hardie added the 2-point conversion and the Bulldogs held an 16-0 lead with 32 seconds left in the second quarter.

The half didn’t end without some drama, as the Patriots had a pass picked off by Brayden Housh on their fourth play of the drive at the ElDo 30-yard line. With 1.6 seconds left, Hardie ran the ball 56 yards up-field before finally being brought down to end the half.

East Newton began the third quarter with the ball and on their 3rd play had the ball intercepted by Blake Holder who returned the pick to the Patriots 6-yard line. On the first play of offense, the football was stripped and recovered by the Patriots.

The ElDo defense forced East Newton into a punting situation and McKinney blocked the punt giving the Bulldogs the ball at the Patriots 6-yard line. On the next play, Hardie dashed into the endzone and Jake Schieffer added the 2-point conversion to give ElDo a 24-0 lead.

East Newton was again forced to punt on their next drive giving the Bulldogs the ball at their own 19-yard line. ElDo then went on an 11-play drive that was highlighted by a 44-yard run by Witt. From 2 yards out, Colton Collins made his way into the endzone. Babcock added the 2-point conversion to give the Bulldogs a 32-0 lead.

On the next East Newton possession, the Patriots fumbled the ball and ElDo recovered at the East Newton 35-yard line. Two plays later, Witt scored from 29 yards out, with Housh kicking the point after to give the Bulldogs a 39-0 lead as the 3rd quarter neared its end.

In the fourth quarter the Bulldogs added another touchdown when Keilan Jaques ran the ball into the endzone from 5 yards out and Housh again kicked the point after to put ElDo up 46-0, which is how the game would end.

Trenton Hardie led the offense with 165 yards on 19 attempts and two TDs. Tanner Witt added 113 yards on 7 carries and one TD. Jake Schieffer gained 25 yards on 8 attempts and added a two point conversion. Trey Babcock rushed for 12 yards on six attempts and had a two point conversion. Cade Whitesell ran the ball six times for 23 yards. Colten Collins carried once for two yards and a TD. Shelby McKinney caught one pass for two yards. Tanner Wttt caught a 20 yard pass.

Defensively, the Bulldogs only gave up 95 yards on 42 plays as the Patriots were dominated on the evening.

ElDo (4-3) next travel to take on #6 Pierce City (7-0) on Friday night. Dakota Long had a busy night with 10 tackles. Blake Holder had nine tackles and intercepted a pass. Wyatt Graves made six tackles. Keilan Jaques made four tackles and had half a TFL (tackle for loss) and half a sack. Dagan McIntire made two tackles both a TFL, deflected a pass and recovered a fumble.

Colten Collins made four tackles as did Dylan Gallette. Hunter Boyles had one tackle as did Clayton Collins. Jordan Gallette made two tackles, one of them a sack. Wyatt Graves had six tackles. Jordan Gallette made two tackles. Trenton Hardie was in on three tackles. Cameron Hargrove had one tackle. Brayden Housh made two tackles and had one interception. Shelby McKinney was in on three tackles, got half a TFL and half a sack. Gaven Morgan, Kaleb Raff and Gavin Reed each had one tackle. Preston Robison made two tackles. Jake Schieffer had three and deflected a pass.  Lance Smith had three. Tanner Witt made two.

ElDo (4-3) next travels to take on #6 Pierce City (7-0) on Friday night.

JV DOGS SQUEAK BY EAST NEWTON – On Monday evening, the East Newton JV football team came to town hoping to avenge the solid spanking their big brothers had suffered from the varsity Bulldog Friday night. The first half went well for the young Patriots ending 14-6 in their favor. The JV Bulldogs moved the ball well at times, like this run by JV Bulldogs Taylor Winget. In the second half, the solid football basics instilled by the Bulldog coaching staff brought the JV Bulldogs to a 22-20 victory.
