It has been a very busy and successful year for everyone here at Riaan Van Dyk’s Spring City Karate in El Dorado Springs.

We concluded the year with a number of students being top ranked in their various divisions in local, regional and national competition circuits. One of our junior student was chosen to represent the USA Karate Team in Casa Del Sol, Spain, at the WMO World Championships and four of our students competed in the NASKA National Championships and won a total of seven National championship titles. Not to mention the numerous medals, thropies, Grand Champion Awards and Top School Honors we have been fortunate to bring home. We look forward to next year and are building now to be ready to compete.

But all seasons come to a close and this year’s points chase concluded with the Holiday Open Karate Tournament in Neosho on Saturday, Nov 12, hosted by Master Jim Riggs and Mr. Kevin Mahurin and sanctioned by the Southwest Association of Tournaments.

Three competitors from our school competed in the Holiday Open and were very successful.

Taylin Oberly placed 2nd in the Youth 17 and Under Traditional Weapons division, placed 1st in Youth 8-9 Open Hand Forms division and placed 1st in Youth 8-9 Point Sparring division.

Mason Gardner placed 1st in the Youth 17 & Under Traditional Weapons division, placed 1st in Youth 10-11 Open Hand Forms division and placed 1st in Youth 10-11 Point Sparring division. Mason also won his very first Youth Forms Grand Championship Trophy.

Jordan Runkle placed 4th in the Youth 17 and Under Traditional Weapons division, placed 1st in Youth 6 and Under Open Hand Forms division and placed 1st in Youth 6 and Under Point Sparring division.

All three of these competitors competed in the Youth Forms Grand Championship Division, but Mason came away with the top honor on Saturday.
