Junior Varsity Defensive Coordinator

I talked to Offensive Coordinator Coach Highley and these are our summaries for Offense, Defense and Special Teams for Monday’s Game.

Offense:

We started the game struggling to finish our offensive drives with points. Also we had a fumble early in the game that Ash Grove capitalized on by returning it for six points.

Once our offense got rolling, it did not stop. Traven Buxton (QB) had a very good game, he scored twice on the night and had several key runs. Other offensive standouts were Shane Trowbridge (RB), Cade Whitesell (FB), Landon Rock (RB) and Deegan Brake (RB). All of our running backs played very well, and we had several different backs scoring touchdowns and two-point conversions.

Defense:

We started off the game a little slow defensively, like we did on offense. A few runs of theirs were able to break contain, but Linebacker Dakota Long was able to step up big time second quarter and on and was able to make several big tackles for loss. The D-line controlled the line of scrimmage, with good performances by Defensive Ends Cameron Hargrove and Anthony Boyer and Defensive Tackle Jordan Gallette. Ash Grove was never able to really get a good drive going after the first quarter, and we controlled the rest of the game.

Special teams:

Freshman CJ Sipes’ kicking last night may have earned a look at the varsity level. He had several kickoffs landing within the 10 yard-line and even had a couple land in the end-zone for touchbacks. CJ’s kicks were pivotal in winning the field position game. Other than that, we performed well on special teams, with Kickoff Return getting a few good returns as well.
