KARATE KIDS RECEIVE AWARDS – On Jan. 28 students representing Van Dyk’s Karate travelled to Tulsa, OK, to compete in the Oklahoma Karate Association Season opener. Yet again it was a very successful event with hundreds of competitors from all over the Midwest region.  Mason Gardner competed in the 10-11 Youth Intermediate Division and placed 1st in Open Hand Forms, 2nd in Traditional Weapons and 4th in Point Sparring. Fellow team member Hunter Malensek competed in the Youth 12-13 Intermediate Division and placed 1st in Open Hand Forms, 1st in Traditional Weapons, and 3rd in Point Sparring.

Later on Saturday evening at the annual OKA Banquet both Hunter and Mason received awards and prizes for their 2016 points standings. Mason received awards for placing 2nd in the Youth 10-11 Novice division in Open Hand Forms, Traditional Weapons and Point Sparring in the 2016 Points Chase.

Hunter received his Championship Award for placing 1st in Youth 10-11 Novice division in Open Hand Forms, Traditional Weapons and Point Sparring in the 2016 Points Chase.

Jacey Swopes who competed in the Youth 6-7 Novice division received her Championship Awards for her 1st place finish in Open Hand Forms and Traditional Weapons and her 2nd place finish in Point Sparring in her 2016 points chase while as a member of Team VDK and Team SWAT.
