On Friday, November 1, the El Dorado Springs Cross Country team loaded up the bus to head to Plato and view the Class 1, 2, and 3 District 2 Cross Country Course.  With the distance the team headed up on Friday to view the course and then went back to Lebanon to have a good meal and rest up for the MSHSAA Class 3 District 2 Cross Country race.  At stake was punching their ticket into the State Cross Country meet to be held on Saturday, November 9 at Gans Creek in Columbia.  To punch their ticket, teams would have to place in the top 4 of the 24 team field or finish in the top 30 as an individual.

As Saturday, November 2 rolled around, the El Dorado Springs cross country woke up for a good breakfast and loaded up the bus for a 40 minute drive back over to Plato with good results on their mind.  Up first was the Class 3 Boys race at 9:00 am. Sophomore Wyatt Klaiber led the race from start to finish, winning the race with a time of 15:58.71.  Senior Braxton Watts finished 5th with a time of 17:30.91 and Sophomore Shane Fletcher finished 9th with a time of 17:43.83.  All 3 punched their tickets to the State Meet.  Sophomore Wilson Burchett also ran for the Bulldogs, finishing the season with a Personal Best time of 22:16.

Next up was the girls Class 3 Race.  Senior Audrey Goatley led the way for the Bulldogs, finishing 2nd with a time of 20:35.08.  Junior Braylie Steward finished 9th for the Bulldogs with a time of 21:45.18.  These two qualified individually for the State Meet, now at stake was whether or not the team would qualify.  Freshman Karcyn Rader was the 3rd Lady Dog to cross the finish line, followed shortly behind by Junior Lela Brown, Freshman Aleta Lyness, Sophomore Riley Lee and Senior Clara Farran.  Despite some sickness these girls ran well and in the end finished 3rd place as a team, qualifying them for the State Meet as a team.  It has been a couple of years since the girls team has qualified as a team so this was a great feeling for the girls team.

Overall, Saturday was a great day!!  Everyone competed well and had really good results.  The Bulldogs will conclude their season on Saturday, November 9 at Gans Creek Park in Columbia.  The MSHSAA Class 3 Girls Race will begin at 9:45 am with the Class 3 Boys Race will begin at 11:15 am.  Best of luck to the State Bound El Dorado Springs Bulldogs.

It’s a Great Time to be a Bulldog!  GO BULLDOGS!
