The Twentieth Century Club meeting on Dec. 11, was our annual Christmas party hosted by Pauline Simone with the following co-hostesses Sharyl Henry, Doris Norval, Kay Sewell, Jean Wernel, Sherry Wiseman and Ruth Woody. The meeting was a social time of visiting, having Christmas goodies and enjoying the entertainment provided by Anna Lee Barker.

Our first meeting of the New Year was on Jan. 8, with the hostess being Evelyn Boyle and co-hostess Luella Phipps.

Luella gave the history of the Twentieth Century Club to celebrate the beginning of our chapter. Our present day club meetings and agenda was compared to the first club’s meetings that was established 118 years ago.

The opinion was presented to the group by Jean Wernel on the homeless situation in our country. The cause of this problem and possible solutions was discussed.

Glenda Baker provided the entertainment called Famous Missourians. The group was given a list of 25 famous people and we had to choose who we thought was born in Missouri which turned out to be very interesting and surprising.

The program was on Ha Ha Tonka State Park given by Evelyn Boyle. The park is located on the Niangua arm of the Lake of the Ozarks. The Park has 37,000 acres and geological sites such as sink holes, caves, a natural bridge and a natural spring. The ruins is the remains of a stone mansion that was modeled and built after a 16th Century castle. The construction was started by Robert Snyder in 1905, a K.C. businessman, but was completed by his sons after his death in the 1920’s. it was used as a summer and weekend home by the family and later as a hotel. A fire destroyed the castle in 1942 leaving the ruins.

The meeting was adjourned to enjoy the beautiful cupcakes decorated with pink roses, our club emblem.
