Jean had the program today. She spoke on dealing with weight loss after 50.
Losing weight after age 50 really is more challenging. The reasons are a mix of lifestyle and physiological factors that combine to make dropping a few pounds more onerous than it was at 35 or 40 (not that easy then either). She gave us some tips on overcoming the hurdle of weight loss over the age of 50. For example, you tend to lose muscle mass as you age. One way to combat this is with strength training and adding protein to your diet. We also experience slower metabolism; one way to help is to be sure to keep up your fluid intake. When you drink water your body goes through a process known as thermogenesis to bring the liquid to body temperature. Fluid is also important to the complex cycle of converting protein and carbohydrates into usable energy.
Stay active as you can and get plenty of sleep.
Marilyn then led us in some marching in place exercise.
With no other business meeting was adjourned with Linda’s quote of the week.
“The man or woman who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.
And our Chapter Motto: IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME.
