Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has released the following statement in support of the Air Force’s recommendation that a Four-Star General be in charge of Global Strike Nuclear Command at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana:
“Given the vital importance of the missions carried out by Global Strike Nuclear Command, it makes sense that it be headed by the highest levels of leadership. The recommendation of Secretary James and General Welsh reinforces both the importance of the missions and the need for top-level leaders to run it. Whiteman Air Force Base is proud to be part of Global Strike Command providing critical assets to the Air Force through its B-2 stealth bomber. A mission of this magnitude deserves to have a seat at the table regarding discussions about our national security. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to secure approval of this recommendation and ensure our nation’s nuclear mission receives the priority it deserves.”
Congresswoman Hartzler serves on the House Armed Services Committee, where she sits on the Readiness and Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittees. She also serves on the Agriculture and Budget Committees. She represents Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District, which is home to Whiteman Air Force Base and Fort Leonard Wood.
