Freed from Depression

Number seven of nine children, I was born here in El Dorado Springs. In a two room shack, my parents told me. I always thought it probably had crescent moon cutouts.

I was raised in a world void of love. Throughout adulthood, I had no purpose for living and have been suicidal most of my life.

I’m sixty-six, and retired now.

A short time ago, I heard about a young man who hung himself. Many people were confused by the tragedy. They asked why or how this could have happened. My thoughts were, “I wish he would have had the tools to deal with the pain.” Months earlier, I, too, was ready to check out. I just wanted the pain to stop. As for life, I was just going through the motions. I had decided on the date I was going to end my life. The afternoon before, without knowing my plan, my wife called Senior Life Solutions.

It saved my life.

In the classes, we learned many helpful tools, like the difference between thoughts and feelings, coping with past demons, and building self-esteem. For the first time, I recognize love, joy, and happiness. I’m not burdened down with old baggage. I carried my childhood turmoil inside for so many years; I just couldn’t do it anymore. I was ready to get rid of it; I just didn’t know how.

Now, I don’t even recognize that person I was. With the tools and knowledge that Senior Life Solutions has given me, my future is beyond any dream!
