Linda C had the program today, she spoke on “The Aging Power of Sugar.” She said aging is a one-way street, and we all travel down its path. But what if you could do one thing today that would slow your body’s aging process? You Can. You Can Stop Eating Sugar. Researchers have found of course, as you get older your cells go downhill, but if you consume a lot of sugar, they go downhill seven times faster. This means eating a lot of sugar causes your body to age at seven times its natural rate. The sugars that occur naturally in fruits, vegetables, grains and dairy are essential to a healthy diet, providing energy and acting as a delivery device for the thousands of nutrients in these foods. Added sugars on the other hand are the compounds that humans put into their food from the spoonful of sugar in your coffee to the factory-made sweeteners manufacturers add to processed foods to increase flavor and extend shelf life. These are the sugars that are harmful and accelerate aging, this is why it is important to read the labels. Fructose may be more harmful than other sugar molecules because it is primarily metabolized by the liver, where it is converted into fat; in excessive amounts, it leads to increased fat accumulation and scarring of the liver.
Thank you, Linda C, for a very informative program, let’s all read those labels and avoid as much of the added sugar as we can.
Contest: We are halfway through the current contest. Pat asked members who are doing the contest to report the number of points they have earned. Warren has 81 points, Sue has 141 points, Marilyn has 108 points, Linda H has 118, Jan has 123 and Pat has 75points. As we are only half way through this contest the numbers could change!
Correspondance: Jean read a thank you note from Warren and Linda thanking us for the Anniversary gift.
Marble game: There is $9 in the pot, Sue won the right to draw but did not get the winning one.
Carol made a motion that the chapter collect cans of soup to donate to the local food pantry for our recognition day project. She asked members to start bringing in cans of soup (they must be in current use by date) to donate for this. Jan. 2 and motion passed.
Happy Birthday to Marie.
Jean is celebrating 21 consecutive years as a KOPS.
With no other business we closed with our motto “IF IT IS TO BE IT IS UP TO ME”
