New Year’s resolutions don’t work: Try to set ‘smart goals’

TOPS Chapter 9319 El Dorado Springs met in The Firefly Services building 700 E. Hospital Rd, on Thursday Jan. 29, for their regular weigh-in and meeting.

Our Leader, Warren called the meeting to order.

Warren led us in roll call, 16 members weighed in. We had an 18.6-pound loss and and .6-pound gain. Giving us an 18.0 net loss!

The best loser for the week was Pat with a 5.6-pound loss, congratulations Pat! Other great losses were; Sheryl 3 pounds, Linda C. 3.6 pounds, Erin 2.8 pounds and Jan 1.0 pound. Congratulations to all.

Marilyn had the program today, she spoke first on the article in the current TOPS NEWS magazine, Rise and Shine. It talks about setting New Year Resolutions, and how that seldom works on a long-term basis. It might be better to set “smart goals”. Small manageable steps to reach your goal. Marilyn said our current contest can help even if you do not choose to join. Pick out some of the activities that you think you can do. Marilyn then shared with us an article she found online titled “Reboot for the new year, several ways to “Reboot” your body and mind. A few of them are: try to avoid ultra processed foods, make wise choices.

Refresh your kitchen, clean up countertops and cabinets, also your refrigerator and freezer.

Take care of YOU,

Eat citrus fruit several times a day

Try volunteer work.

Get some new exercise clothes to make you want to work out.

Getting more steps in can help lower your risk of dementia

Drink more water

Cook new foods, try new recipes and different spices

Try keeping a gratitude journal

Be mindful and grateful for the moment

Remember, we will never lose, we will either win or learn.

Marble Game: There is only $1.50 in the pot as it was won last week. Carol won the right to draw, she drew the red marble, so got to draw another, however it was not the winning one.
