We are starting to see the first bills move through the legislative process this session. Senate Bill 1 and Senate Bill 2, both of which I sponsor, have been passed by the Missouri Senate and now begin the same process in the Missouri House of Representatives. Senate Bill 1 addresses the needs of our county officials and Senate Bill 2 pertains to financial statements of certain local governments.

In addition, another three of my proposals were heard in committee this week. Senate Bill 97, Senate Bill 98 and Senate Bill 99 were all heard in the Missouri Senate Insurance and Banking Committee, which I chair. Senate Bill 97, modernizes and updates the state’s banking code to provide efficiency and clarity. Senate Bill 98, addresses the dramatic increase in fraud and scams plaguing Missouri citizens and seeks to protect their accounts. Senate Bill 99, facilitates a “trusted contact” program and provides express authority for banks to report suspected exploitation or fraud.
