This session has been one of the busiest I have experienced, in large part due to an overall more productive General Assembly; and I have been spending much more of my time on significant legislation.
This week, my first bill passed both the Senate and the House and is headed to the Governor’s desk for his signature. Senate Bill 1 helps several county officials, including Public Administrators, Auditors and Coroners. These specific provisions were part of a much larger bill passed in 2022. The Missouri Supreme Court later declared it unconstitutional by violating our single-subject requirement, not on the merits of what was in the bill. Getting SB 1 across the finish line is a win for our local governments and the citizens they serve.
As we head into the final three weeks of session, I am hopeful that I will be successful in getting other bills passed.
Next week, we will spend time working on the state’s budget. It must be passed by May 9. We still have a lot to accomplish before session ends on May 16.
I am honored to serve as your senator in the Missouri Senate. If, at any time, you have questions, concerns or ideas regarding state government, please feel free to contact me at 573-751-8793 or Sandy.Crawford@senate.mo.gov.
