State Sen. Sandy Crawford, R-Buffalo, announced today the first legislative bill to be filed for the 2025 regular legislative session has been signed into law.

“I want to thank the governor for signing Senate Bill 1 into law,” Sen. Crawford said. “I believe this new law will help several county officials, including public administrators, auditors and coroners. I also want to thank my colleagues in both the Missouri Senate and House of Representatives for getting this over the legislative finish line before session ends.  Senate Bill 1 will become law on Aug. 28, 2025.

“These specific provisions were part of a much larger bill passed in 2022,” Sen. Crawford said. “The Missouri Supreme Court later declared it unconstitutional by violating Missouri’s single-subject requirement, not on the merits of what was in the bill. We were able to put together new wording on this, which means it is cleared to take effect later this year. I am happy to see we could help these county officials not only in my district, but throughout our state.”

The 2025 regular legislative session has come to a close.  I believe it was successful session and I was able to get several of my priorities to the governor’s desk Already signed into law was  Senate Bill 1. This bill will help several county officials, including public administrators, auditors and coroners.

We were also able to pass the Fiscal Year 2026 state operating budget ahead of the constitutionally mandated deadline, make changes for small business owners and will give Missouri voters a say in health care matters. I will have more details for you in a future column.
