Resolution
Whereas, the members of the Missouri House of Representatives proudly pause to recognize the 135th Annual El Dorado Springs Picnic; and
Whereas, El Dorado Springs, Missouri, was founded on July 20, 1881, and to honor this special day the City of El Dorado Springs hosts a picnic each year in Spring Park on the weekend nearest July 20; and
Whereas, the City of El Dorado Springs was established after founders believed the spring to have medicinal value, a fact well known by the Osage Indians who had brought their sick and wounded there for many years; and
Whereas, as word spread throughout the country, the attention surrounding the spring did not escape brothers N.H. and W.P. Cruce, who owned the land on which the spring was located; and
Whereas, the Cruce brothers decided to form a town and set the spring and several acres of land aside as a park in the heart of the town with a bandstand built for local festivities that has been replaced twice over the years; and
Whereas, each year nearly 30,000 citizens and visitors alike gather for three days in mid-July to enjoy music, talent shows, contest, art and craft displays, and much more in Spring Park, the focal point of the community where the spring still flows today:
Now, therefore, be it resolved that we, the members of the Missouri House of Representatives, Ninety-eighth General Assemble, join in extending our most hearty congratulations to the leaders and citizens of the City of El Dorado Springs upon this very special anniversary event; and
Be it further resolved that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of Representitives be instructed to prepare a properly inscribed copy of this resolution for the City of El Dorado Springs, Missouri.
