Walter H. Meeker, Stockton, was charged last Thursday with five sex crimes with a person less than 14 years old.

When the Cedar County Sheriff’s office went to arrest Meeker, there was a 45 minute standoff while Meeker held a gun under his own chin threatening to harm himself. He finally laid the gun down, but would not walk away from it. A law enforcement person got into position behind him and tased him.

Meeker, for years, has been the owner of Walt’s Archery and Gun north of Stockton on Hwy. 39.

He had been a Stockton volunteer fireman and a first responder for several years. He was a vocal attendee at many Cedar County Ambulance Board meetings opposing the switch from St. John’s/Mercy to Citizens Memorial as the service provider.

The five felony charges from the Cedar County Prosecutor are:

– Statutory Sodomy – 1st Degree – Deviant Sexual Intercourse with a Person Less than14 years old.

– Statutory Sodomy – 1st Degree – Deviant Sexual Intercourse with a Person Less than 14 years old.

– Child Molestation – 1st Degree.

– Incest.

– Incest.

Deviant sexual intercourse is basically one person touching the genitals of another by hand, mouth or genitals. It doesn’t necessarily mean anal sexual intercourse.

Why was he denied bond?

According to sources, there was a 45 minute stand-off. When they went to pick him up, he held a gun under his chin and was threatening to kill himself. They finally had to Taze him to take him down. So right now they are worried about him hurting himself or somebody else.

The judge will take all that up on Wednesday.
