The activities surrounding the so called “White Trash Bash” at Caplinger Mills Saturday, Aug 13, has presented a mixed bag of information.

The event at the Caplinger Mills River Front Resort on private property owned by Don Kopczynski, generated rumors of people having to go to the hospital and damage to a patrol car. According to Cedar County Sheriff Leon Dwerlkotte, the story of damage to a patrol car is true. The deputy ran off the shoulder of the road.

Dwerlkotte said that no one wanted to press charges on the rumored assaults, but the sheriff’s office did chase a 4 door Dodge dually into Polk County were they lost it. The sheriff said he believes the department has it located.

The Cedar County Sheriff’s report of Aug, 13, 2016, stated: Received a report of vehicles blocking the roadway and driveway to a business on the east side of Caplinger Mills. All vehicles were removed; received report of a vehicle blocking the driveway of a residence on the east side of Caplinger Mills. All vehicles were removed; received report of a subject attempting to assault people with his vehicle. Handled by deputy: Received a report of a vehicle blocking the roadway on the west side of Caplinger Mills. Vehicle was towed.

Also from the Aug. 14, 2016, sheriff’s report, request for ambulance at the Caplinger Mills campgrounds; request for ambulance to the intersection of North Street in Caplinger Mills and a request for ambulance at the campgrounds in Caplinger Mills.

Janell Harrelson, who owns the Caplinger Woods Campground, said her husband, Justin, and a 67-year-old man who is living at the campground were both hit by a truck. She took her husband and the man to the Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs, but took them home before they were seen by a doctor. Later on Sunday morning she took her husband to Citizens Memorial in Bolivar. He has surgery pending. She also said the 67-year-old man went back to CCMH and was diagnosed with broken ribs and a punctured lung and is now in Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

Tuesday evening, Aug. 16, Sheriff Dwerlkotte said the Highway Patrol was assisting in investigating the pick-up.
