The El Dorado Springs High School DECA chapter will host a live “Docudrama” mock crash scene on Tuesday, November 3, aimed at educating students and the community on the dangerous consequences of impaired driving.

The realistic mock crash demonstration will take place on Park Street and will begin at approximately 1:15 p.m. To facilitate the event safely, Park Street will be closed to all traffic from Twyman Street to Poplar Street from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Drivers in the area are asked to plan alternate routes during these hours. Please be aware that there will be emergency vehicles and a Cox Air Care helicopter landing on school grounds during this event.

The Docudrama simulates an alcohol-involved vehicular accident, demonstrating the step-by-step response of local emergency personnel and highlighting the severe emotional and physical fallout of poor driving choices. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, nearly 20% of all traffic fatalities among individuals under the age of 21 in Missouri involve alcohol-impaired driving. Furthermore, state data reveals that between 2019 and 2021 alone, substance-impaired drivers under 21 were involved in 55 fatal crashes and 127 serious injury crashes across Missouri.

Following the mock crash demonstration, students will transition to an indoor assembly featuring local emergency responders who assisted during the simulation. The presentation will also feature guest speaker Luke Spain from CoxHealth, who will share insights on trauma, victim impact, and the real-world choices facing young drivers behind the wheel.

“Our goal with this event is to give students a hard, unforgettable look at the consequences of driving under the influence,” said Kristal Swopes, Advisor of the El Dorado Springs DECA Chapter. “We want every student to understand that one decision can change—or end—lives in a matter of seconds.”

Members of the local media and community are invited to attend.
