Dr Brad Mears, an associate professor at the University of Central Missouri,  will speak on “The Amazing Brain” on October 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the El Dorado Springs Elementary cafeteria.  While his information will be valuable to any parent or educator, he will be an especially great resource to families with children with specific learning issues or autism.

Dr. Mears presents to teachers, parents and child care providers about the importance of positive early interactions and experiences on the brain and the child’s development. Dr. Mears will include information about how the brain reacts and learns, the effects of negative interactions, trauma and stress on the brain and learning, provide hands on examples for parents  and show visual reactions of how the brain reacts in stressful situations.

An entertaining and interactive speaker, Dr. Mears travels internationally to present information on topics related to early childhood growth and development, specifically in the areas of developmental neurology, neuro-education, and autism. He also serves as a board member for the Midwest Clinic for Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Parents, teachers, and community members interested in this topic are all invited to attend. Childcare and pizza will be provided to those who register by October 3.  Door prizes and information about additional resources will also be provided. The program is being sponsored by Parents as Teachers through a grant from Children’s Trust Fund, with supper provided by El Dorado Springs Title I. Call the Elementary Office at 876-3112 or Parents As Teachers at 876-4177 for more information or to RSVP.
